DemocraticQ1 America has a growing AI industry, supporting cutting-edge innovation but raising issues of resource use, privacy, and economics. In your opinion, what are the costs and benefits of new data center construction in Arkansas and how would your policies accomplish a balance between them?
“I advocate for communities to be directly involved in decisions about data centers, with public meetings and information with full transparency from the companies proposing the construction. Communities should vote and decide for themselves whether they want a data center in their backyard.”
Q2 Making the US competitive in the bioeconomy (using technology applied to renewable biological resources to produce food, energy, and industrial goods) requires innovation and investments in business, academia, and government. Please describe policies you will support, if any, that relate to workforce development in Arkansas’ strengths such as agriculture and biotechnology; and explain their rationale.
“I would support bills funding research and development as well as government subsidies for these technologies so that they could be implemented with maximum benefit.”
Q3 What are your opinions on the current state of science literacy, and how could K-12 education standards be adapted to improve the public understanding of and relationship building in science?
“I have repeatedly voiced my support for a robust Department of Education providing funding for K-12 schools and mandating civics education that is thorough and increases in complexity with each grade. This should include the history of government intersection with scientific discoveries and support of scientific research. The historical impact of science on the lives of people should be emphasized. The curriculum for these mandatory topics would require new textbooks and detailed planning. The program as I see it would take a few years to fully develop and then be rolled out to every school district. Ten years from now this could be ready for implementation across the nation.”
