Q6 How do you view the role of science in K-12 education? What policies or investments, do you support, or have supported to ensure and improve the quality science instruction for students, and explain why these are your policies?

K-12 Science Education

I view science as an increasingly important subject for all our students. I have, and will continue to, fight for fully funded schools so all students can have access to modern facilities such as science labs. I will also continue to fight for equity so that it is not just selective enrollment schools or those with ‘friends of’ groups to assist with funding who can have a wide range of courses and modern facilities.

Q7 The use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) has become more integrated in the classroom. What policies would you support for AI use by students and teachers in the classroom to ensure that students receive quality science instruction?

Artificial IntelligenceK-12 Science Education

I have signed the pledge for a three year pause while we evaluate and study the role and impact of AI on our students learning conditions. I am very concerned about the use of AI in classrooms and the impact it may have on the development of our students’ critical thinking skills.
