DemocraticQ2 Delaware’s electricity is delivered through PJM interconnection, the regional grid operator for the mid-atlantic. Across the PJM region, electricity demand is rising in part due to large-scale data center development. What evidence-based policies, if any, would you support addressing the effects of AI-driven data center growth on electricity costs and grid reliability for Delaware’s residents?
I have limited knowlegdge of this specific area. However, I support exploring Nuclear energy as an option specifically Small Modular Reactors in place in Delaware to help with the growing needs and cost of energy. Additionally, I think we need to explore more use of Solar as an energy source as well. I have some concerns about the wind as an energy source and the environmental impact on the State. However, my thoughts should take a back to seat the thoughts of my consituents.
Q3 Federal agencies including the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) project that Delaware’s coastal communities face increasing risk of tidal flooding in the coming decades. What evidence-based policies, if any, would you support to help these communities respond to increased coastal flooding risk?
I would support wetland restoration that are fully planned out to consider any disruption of the ecosystem for tidal wetlands. I support potentially capping building density in vulnerable floodplains by incorporating something similar to the State of Oregan example of their Urban Growth Boundary (Basically, conservation of land but ensuring growth over a 20year period).
Q9 Delaware funds youth substance-use prevention programs through the Division of Public Health and the state budget. According to the 2024 Delaware School Survey, 26% of Delaware 11th graders perceive great risk in regular marijuana use, down from 50% in 1999. What evidence-based policies, if any, would you support to address substance use among young people in Delaware and ensure drug usage decline?
I would support youth access to resources and activities in mentorship programs, extracurricular acitivites and after-school programs. It is so important for this reason and so many more to get back to nurturing family environments and partnerships with school systems. Additionally, we need to be more aware of young people and their mental health given the significant correlation between drug use and mental health issues.
