RepublicanQ2 Delaware’s electricity is delivered through PJM interconnection, the regional grid operator for the mid-atlantic. Across the PJM region, electricity demand is rising in part due to large-scale data center development. What evidence-based policies, if any, would you support addressing the effects of AI-driven data center growth on electricity costs and grid reliability for Delaware’s residents?
I live a reality based life. The reality is that data centers are a necessary evil. China is already way ahead of us. Are we honestly okay with China having complete control of this? The issue is the energy needed. These centers MUST generate their own power. Our grids are NOT capable of supporting anything more than already have. Delawareans should not be paying a dime for any of this, and truthfully we CAN’T! The technology is available for the centers to be self sustainable, and any extra power produced could be sold back to Delmarva Power.
Q3 Federal agencies including the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) project that Delaware’s coastal communities face increasing risk of tidal flooding in the coming decades. What evidence-based policies, if any, would you support to help these communities respond to increased coastal flooding risk?
This situation has been slowly increasing over the years. It isnt uncommon to watch the ocean and the bay mix it up on RT 1, in Dewey. As wonderful as it is to live so close to the coastline, it comes with risks. Those risks are WELL KNOWN when you sign those mortgage papers. While I do support government assistance when these storms are severe, this is what homeowners and flood insurance is for. Each case should be evaluated individually. I would also support restricting further development of homes and businesses where flooding is inevitable.
Q9 Delaware funds youth substance-use prevention programs through the Division of Public Health and the state budget. According to the 2024 Delaware School Survey, 26% of Delaware 11th graders perceive great risk in regular marijuana use, down from 50% in 1999. What evidence-based policies, if any, would you support to address substance use among young people in Delaware and ensure drug usage decline?
Education! Families need to have these conversations with their children. Start early and often! Once is not enough. Check-in with your kids! Once you have had the initial conversation, continue with easy, short check-in’s. Have examples, information and resources available. If your child has experimented, talk about it. Be engaged with your kids, but don’t use anger. Care and concern goes a long way. But NEVER pretend it isnt happening. Face the issue head on.
